CiviliTV and the Practice of Law: Lessons Inn Civility from Mister Rogers & Favorite Cartoon Characters
This CLE tour de force guided three law students, as well as our Inn members and guests, through the Neighborhood of Make Believe, with Mister Rogers as host, showcasing the American Inns of Court’s civility principles and how the rules guiding attorneys’ ethical and professional conduct should be employed in practice. Along the way, Mister Rogers and his Neighborhood Trolley transported us to several cartoon towns—including Townsville (Powerpuff Girls), Springfield (The Simpsons), Coolsville (Scooby-Doo), and Bikini Bottom (SpongeBob SquarePants)—to learn about the history of civility and the dos and don’ts of lawyer behavior in the courtroom and when interacting with other lawyers. We even enjoyed an impromptu visit from the lead characters of Wicked, who led us in a couple of songs from the musical with civility-inspired parody lyrics.
