Is life INN plastic as fantastic as it seems? For these Barbies and Kens (and I suppose Allan), issues of indirect civil and criminal liability are bringing trouble to Barbieland's beach paradise. With musical numbers, bespoke choreography, and thoughtful vignettes, this program explores issues where one party might be responsible for the
acts of another, and the ethical questions associated with it. After a dramatic prologue, complete with Helen Mirren impersonation, the cast performs a short dance sequence to “Pink” by Lizzo, situating us in present-day Barbieland. The audience then experiences three separate fact patterns grappling with indirect liability based on one’s words: first, words of permission, then words of instigation, and finally, words of defamation. Liberal use of quotes and concepts from the Barbie movie as well as live musical performances of songs from the movie, complete with parody lyrics to drive the storylines, captured the flavor of this last year’s Barbie phenomenon. The program fosters excellence in professionalism as well as excellence in legal skills, furthering the mission of the American Inns of Court.
