Ted Lasso and the Golden Snitch (Ted Lasso in Hogwarts)
The topic of the program was California’s New Rule of Professional Conduct 8.3, which became effective on August 1, 2023. The Rule has been dubbed the “Snitch Rule” because it imposes a duty upon attorneys to report the misconduct of another attorney in certain circumstances. Since Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the best place to learn about snitches, the presentation journeys there with Ted Lasso as he takes the field as Quidditch coach. The program begins with an introduction by Ted Lasso and Coach Beard, explaining to the audience that not only are they going to watch a program about Hogwarts, but they will also be Hogwarts students. Coach Lasso and Coach Beard sorted the audience into the four Hogwarts houses and explained that each house will receive points based on their contributions to the discussion, with the winner to be awarded the “house cup.” The Quidditch players at Hogwarts operate under a set of ethical play rules that are modeled after the California Rules of Professional Conduct. In the scenes, Ted Lasso and his coaches meet with the different Quidditch Teams who each are experiencing ethical dilemmas before their big matches. Each dilemma is based on an issue that deals with their obligation to report misconduct under Rule 8.3 of the Witchcraft and Wizardry Rules of Professional Conduct, which is the same as California Rule 8.3 (the Snitch Rule).
