Lincoln Inn Presents Caddyshack
Taking inspiration from the movie Caddyshack, this program delved into issues involving judicial ethics--amongst other thing the types of exclusive private clubs that judges may join, whether judges can bet on sporting events, whether a judge can headline Bar-related golf tournaments, whether a judge seeking re-election can sponsor a golf hole during a tournament, under what circumstances judges can put in the "good word" for law students, and other ethical matters. The presentation's basic plot centered around a golf tournament being held at Bushwood Country Club, which is an exclusive club whose membership is limited to prestigious plaintiff lawyers. The winner of the tournament would receive clerkship with Judge Smails, a founder of the club. An aspiring law student, Danny Noonan, desires to win the tournament to further his career and seeks advice from local golfer, Ty Webb. A judge who is seeking re-election, Al Czervik, sponsors the 18th hole of the tournament to support his campaign. Czervik's presence and acts of buffoonery cause great annoyance to Judge Smails. This leads Judge Smails to attempt to bribe Noonan into throwing the tournament, but Noonan refuses and eventually wins the tournament.
