Lewis F. Powell, Jr. Award Nomination Procedures

The American Inns of Court Lewis F. Powell Award for Professionalism and Ethics is awarded each year to a lawyer or judge who has rendered exemplary service in the areas of legal excellence, professionalism and ethics.
Please note: The nominee does not need to be an American Inn of Court member and must be alive at the time of nomination.

How to submit a nomination:

Nominations must be submitted using the online nomination form.  (Login required. If you are not an AIC member, you will need to create an account.)

Deadline for nominations:

  • The online nomination form must be submitted by June 1.  Additional materials sent separately must be emailed or postmarked by June 1.

How recipients are selected:

  • A national committee of the American Inns of Court selects the honoree.  The recipient will be selected by June 30.

When and where the award is presented:

  • The award is presented annually each Fall at the American Inns of Court Celebration of Excellence at the Supreme Court of the United States.
