Clue on Stage
Object of the Game: Use clues to determine the killer, the murder weapon, and the room in which the crime occurred. Characters: Judge Peacock, Assistant State Attorney Plum, Boddy, Colonel Mustard, Defense Attorney Scarlet, Rev. Green, Mrs. White, Dr. Orchid, Inspector Hercule Poirot, Courtroom Deputy, Reporter, Concept: A contentious trial is taking place in the courtroom of Judge Peacock. The parties and their attorneys are at each other's throats. The key witness is about to testify. Given the case notoriety, several people have decided to spectate the trial—including the esteemed Inspector Hercule Poirot. Before the trial can begin, however, it is discovered the witness was murdered! Law enforcement refuses to disclose the witness name, where the murder occurred, or the manner in which the witness was killed. The parties and their lawyers, of course, accuse each other. A family member of the decedent has hired Inspector Poirot to solve the murder and insists on a speedy trial against the culprit responsible for the murder. Discuss the rights of crime victims provided by Marsy's Law, which was an amendment to the Florida Constitution in 2018. Rev. Green decides he wants to represent himself and the Judge must do a Faretta inquiry. The Judge also must engage in an inquiry related to a discovery violation. Other legal issues will arise such as the elements of murder, potential defenses, slayer statutes, contempt, confrontation clause, and heir rights. Complete the program with closing arguments from State and Defense with potential ethical/appellate issues. Between each act, the actors will engage the audience in questions and answers related to the information portrayed in the scene.
