The focus of this program was to explain proposed changes to the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, the new summary judgment standard in Florida, and potential issues that can be appealed after receiving a ruling on a motion for summary judgment. These legal rules/concepts were broken down into 3 Acts, with each Act focusing on one of the concepts in the context of a civil personal injury lawsuit. Presenters used the structure/rules/characters of Chess to explain the legal rules at issue. Although the law was state specific to Florida, the presenters compared the new Florida rules to the federal rules, and to the former version of the rules in the State. Lastly, there was an ethical component to the presentation by portraying things that one should and should not do as a lawyer when placed in difficult situations by both clients and supervising lawyers. All of the characters in our presentation dressed as "real life" Chess characters.
