"This program is different from other programs. You and YOU ALONE are in charge of what happens in this program. There are dangers, choices, adventures, and consequences. YOU must use all of your
numerous talents and much of your enormous intelligence. The wrong decision could end in disaster--even death." These eerie words introduced the audience to our Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-type
virtual program, in which they controlled the choices of California Governor Gavin Newsom as he confronted the challenges of the COVID pandemic. The (unmasked) Governor, celebrating his birthday at Napa Valley's posh French Laundry Restaurant, was interrupted by a desperate public school mom, a food-depriving waiter, and the one and only French Laundry Chef Thomas Keller. The Governor had to
decide whether to open public schools, continue his ban on indoor religious services, allow hazard pay to restaurant workers, or suspend overtime laws. His trusty guide was none other than the Honorable
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who somehow had access to Face Time in heaven. RBG conducted Zoom polls of the audience whenever the Governor had to make a difficult choice ( even including his menu
selections), and the audience's decisions dictated how the program unfolded At times, their choices led to our poor Governor's death, but RBG was there to save the day by allowing the audience to change
their choices by "raising those Zoom hands up high!" The audience tackled difficult Constitutional and state law issues to determine how much authority the Governor actually possessed when making those
tough decisions during the pandemic. Never has an Inn of Court performance been more in the hands of the audience than in this hilarious--yet informative--program.
