Warning: The Practice of,Law Can,Be Hazardous to Your Health - Enter With Caution
The practice of law can be stressful, with pressures such as law school debt, long hours, demanding workload, isolation, deadlines, demand for perfection, and inherent conflict. Many practitioners suffer from alcohol and/or drug dependency, as well as other mental health issues. Although the practice of law remains one of the most sought after professions, over 44% of lawyers recently surveyed by The American Bar Association said they would not recommend the legal profession to a young person. Why is that? As they deal with the stress and pressures of a demanding profession are attorneys really astute in acknowledging and assessing the problem? To what extent should law partners and managers be committed to ensuring the well-being of their attorneys? How do these leaders and other colleagues promote and encourage distressed lawyers to seek help? This program explored these issues, encouraging a discussion about methods for dealing with stress in the legal profession.
