Credit Card Transaction Fee Increase
Effective July 1, 2025, the transaction fee
associated with using the American Inns of Court’s merchant account for
credit card payments through the inn Management System is increasing. The new transaction fee will be 3.5%.
Why the increase?
Since developing the credit card payment option in 2011, the
transaction fee has remained 2.2% + $0.30. Over time, this rate did not
cover the American Inns of Court’s expenses to offer the credit card
payment processing service, leaving a majority of the fee underwritten
by the national office. The rate increase will reduce the gap between
the cost of the service to the American Inns of Court and the cost to
users.
If our Inn wants to continue using the American Inns of Court’s merchant account, what do we need to do?
Please email your director of chapter relations and let them know. If we
don't hear from you, we will assume that you intend to continue using
the American Inns of Court's merchant account and that you accept the
fee increase.
What are our other options for accepting credit card payments?
The IMS can integrate with an Inn’s PayPal business account, and the
Inn is welcome to explore additional online payment processors, such as
Venmo or Zelle. The American Inns of Court does not endorse one service
provider over another; it is highly recommended that each Inn’s leaders
research the best option for their needs.
Do we need to accept credit card payments?
No, to do so is at each Inn’s discretion. If your Inn is currently
accepting credit card payments through the American Inns of Court’s
merchant account and you wish to stop that service, follow the
instructions on page 31 of the IMS User Guide to turn off that payment option.
