The Legality and Legacy of the Declaration of Independence

The Legality and Legacy of the Declaration of Independence
As part of the American Inns of Court's mission to advance the rule of law, we will discuss and debate with leading jurists from the English Inns of Court the legality and legacy of the Declaration of Independence. This unique discussion celebrating the Declaration's 250th anniversary--the first document in the history of the world asserting a whole people's right to choose their own government--through competing American and British perspectives promises to be entertaining, informative, and timely. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the debate will begin promptly at 4:45 p.m. Attendees are invited to a reception immediately following the debate.

Proceeds from the debate will go to support the
Randy J. Holland Pegasus Scholarship Endowment. The Pegasus Scholarship is an annual intensive month-long exchange of early career U.S. and U.K. attorneys. Pegasus scholars engage with and support judges and barristers, observe trial preparation, argument and court proceedings, and gain an understanding of the English legal education system with a view toward bolstering our shared practice and the rule of law.
