John Ratnaswamy founded his own law firm
after having served as a co-founder and partner at a nationally
recognized energy boutique law firm. He has spent over 25 years
counseling and representing electric and natural gas industry clients,
including before utility commissions and on appeal. Ratnaswamy has been
selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© from 2010–2025 and
was named its 2014 Chicago “Lawyer of the Year” in the field of Energy
Law. He also has been recognized in Chambers USA from 2007–2018 and 2024–2025, the Leading Lawyers Network from 2012–2025, and by Super Lawyers® from 2010–2025 as an Illinois lawyer in the field of energy and natural resources law.*
Ratnaswamy also has over 20 years of experience in counseling,
teaching, and writing on lawyer professional responsibility and ethics
matters. He also is a former member of the Hearing Board of the Illinois
Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.
He has been a columnist for The Bencher since since March 1997.
