  Robert Van Pelt was born on September 9, 1897 in Stockville, Nebraska. He was appointed United States District Judge for the District of Nebraska on August 1, 1957.  He served with high distinction until his death on April 27, 1988.  He was a member of the advisory committee that prepared the Federal Rules of Evidence that first took effect in 1975.  He was named as Special Master by the United States Supreme Court in the following state boundary disputes: Texas v. Louisiana, 426 U.S. 465 (1976), California v. Nevada,447 U.S. 125 (1980), and Kentucky v. Indiana, 474 U.S. 1 (1985).  He was one of the original members of our Inn when it was established in 1987. 1973 photo courtesy of Townsend Studio.
