Professionalism Award Winners for 2010

The American Inns of Court is pleased to announce the recipients of its prestigious 2010 Professionalism Awards.

The American Inns of Court Professionalism Awards are awarded each year, on a federal circuit basis, to a lawyer or judge whose life and practice display sterling character and unquestioned integrity, coupled with ongoing dedication to the highest standards of the legal profession and the rule of law.  With the concurrence and participation of the chief judge of the circuit, the award is presented at each circuit's judicial conference.  The winners are also recognized at the American Inns of Court Celebration of Excellence Dinner, hosted by Justice Clarence Thomas, at the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, DC, on October 23, 2010.  Candidates for these awards are nominated through circuit-wide open nominations and selected by a panel of representatives from both the circuit and the American Inns of Court Foundation.  The awards are underwritten in part by Thomson Reuters.

This year’s winners are, by circuit:

Firmly rooted in the noble 800-year-old tradition of the Inns of Court in England, the American Inns exist to supplement the academic and technical training of American lawyers through the time-honored English tradition and practice of “pupillage”—the sharing of wisdom, insight and experience of seasoned judges and lawyers with newer practitioners.  Using this approach, the American Inns of Court seeks to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skills.

The American Inns of Court includes more than 27,000 federal, state and local judges, lawyers, law professors and law students in more than 350 chapters across the United States.  Additionally, there are more than 85,000 alumni members.  The national office is located in Alexandria, Virginia.  More information is available at www.innsofcourt.org.
